A Day in the Life of PropertyGuys.com Franchisee, David Hicks
A day in the life of top-performing franchisee, David Hicks (owner/operator of PropertyGuys.com in Red Deer & Central Alberta) starts before the rising of the sun between 5:30 -6:15 a.m. “I get up and do some reading and reflecting”, he states, “My goal is to be at the gym by 7 a.m. or earlier.” Following this morning routine, it’s a varied web of activity for his franchise including: sign installations, information/listing appointments and existing client support work. Hicks reflects that his days are “never the same and never dull” –especially since he recently obtained his real estate license and began offering expanded services to his sellers. In collaboration with PropertyGuys.com’s partner brokerage PG Direct Realty, Hicks managed to help two buyers find their next property in his very first month as a licensed franchisee. With an extensive background in the oil and gas industry, Hicks spent years traveling throughout Western North America followed by a 5-year stint in a management position. He spent a lot of time away from home. Therefore, not surprisingly, one of the biggest driving forces in Hicks’ career shift came as a result of wanting to take ownership of and responsibility for his life and business. Hicks states that he now gets to be, “home every night [and gets to] work from home a lot.” In addition to the flexibility of building his own schedule and operating from a home base, Hicks recognizes other daily aspects of running his franchise that keep him passionate about his work:

Photography: As an avid and talented photographer, Hicks has combined his passion for real estate with his love of being behind the lens. Whether shooting at the home of one of his new listings or enjoying a day-hike with his wife, you can almost always find David with his camera in hand. It is also not uncommon for him to stop on the way home from a listing appointment or putting up a sold sign to capture the best of Alberta’s vast wildlife and scenery.
Although being close to home and family is at the core of everything that Hicks does, he won’t deny that one of the greatest perks of the job is really being able to work from anywhere. When asked about his favourite office spot, Hicks recounts that he “answered a client call this past summer from the summit of a mountain.” He continues that it was, “super cool….although very windy!”
