You’ve mastered your interior property shots and now it’s time to capture the outside at its best. From inexpensive additional living space in your backyard to welcoming curb appeal – the importance of great outdoor photos can’t be underestimated.
Thankfully, there is often less to capture, making outdoor photos easier to get right. Here are three very important and often not so obvious tips to consider before getting behind the camera.
EXTERIOR
- Again, Declutter, Stage and Clean: Mow the lawn, rake those leaves, put the hose away and move your cars out of the shot. Prepping your exterior for photos is pretty straightforward and most people have a good sense of small tweaks to improve curb appeal, so trust your gut!
- Check the time: You can’t move your house and you can’t move the sun, so you’ll need to determine the best time of day to photograph any given side of your house with the sun at your back for best results. If you’re in a pinch and need to photograph all 4 sides at the same time, choose 12 noon as your best compromise for all sides as the sun will be highest in the sky.
- Raise the bar: You still should use a tripod for outdoor shots, even though you won’t need it to stabilize slow shutter speeds. Its value outside is helping you keep things square and also to keep the camera level high; the opposite of your interiors, since now you have a building that could be 12, 15, 20 or more feet high and you don’t want shots that are all lawn – yawn!
Follow these three easy steps and you’ll be on your way to making a great first impression with buyers online.
