Shipping container houses take recycling to the next level. Not only are shipping containers extremely durable, but they’re very abundant, with an estimated 17 million of them around the world. If you do it correctly, shipping container houses can be a cost effective and eco friendly way to build a unique looking modern home.

A truly amazing and award winning architectural marvel, this 4 bedroom family home in southern England repurposes an old tower to act as the front door and foyer. Built for former Manchester United superstar Gary Neville, this 8,000 square-foot home is built almost completely into the hillside. It is also designed and outfitted to be as friendly as possible, featuring its own solar panels and wind turbines that can power the entire house.

The story of this former U.S Forest Service fire lookout started when Alan Colley and Dabney Tompkins realized just how many of these were left unused and the scenic views they offered.
